Here's One That Will Knick Your Socks Off...

Bush Vetoes Child Health Plan

WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Bush, in a confrontation with Congress, on Wednesday vetoed a bipartisan bill that would have dramatically expanded children's health insurance.

It was only the fourth veto of Bush's presidency, and one that some Republicans feared could carry steep risks for their party in next year's elections. The Senate approved the bill with enough votes to override the veto, but the margin in the House fell short of the required number.

The White House sought as little attention as possible, with the president wielding his veto behind closed doors without any fanfare or news coverage.

Surprising that the White House "sought as little attention as possible". Isn't it? I mean, if you watch Fox News this Sunday you'd think conservatives everywhere were cheering for such a pen stroke from their fearless leader:

(via Newshounds...my emphasis)

"Well, first of all, whenever I hear anything described as a heartless assault on our children, I tend be - think - it's a good idea. I'm happy that the President is willing to do something bad for the kids. You do wonder about the Democrats, If I can just say. Putting a 12-year-old - I mean, how pathetic is that? A 12-year-old kid giving the radio address. Nancy Pelosi pretending she's praying for the President. You really wonder how stupid they think the American people are." - Bill Kristol. speaking about the President's threat to veto the SCHIPS legislation, FOX News Sunday, 9/30/07

Yepper! Compassionate Conservatism at its finest. I'm going to go ahead and save us some time and just give William "The Bloody" Kristol the next five WTF moments for that gem. He does have a point though, it's not like republican officials would ever do something so pathetic as to hide behind young children...

No. Never.
